One further update to report. When I stated before that Mandriva's DVD image on their ftp server had somehow been truncated to 2097Mb, this was in fact incorrect. The size, as reported by Firefox, is in error. I attempted to download the DVD and discovered that once the browser believes it has reached the end of the file, the download continues - and the display reverts to negative numbers.
Once completed, the resultant file does complete a checksum correctly and I have successfully burned a DVD image.
Makes no difference to the performance of the software, which is a shame, but it's one less issue to be concerned about!
Of course, i had tried RC2, i feel that mandriva 2005 is good enough for all applications, you can manually update Openoffice 2.0 and other packages if you like.
No need 2006.

More features, nicer appearance.
I am not sure whether appearance is an issue since you can customise your desktop the way you want to. Also about features, I struggle to find a feature in Suse that Mandriva doesn't have and vice versa. These two distros hold their own against each other and choosing between the two is personal preference. Anyway if Suse 10 is working fine for you, then stick with it because it seems to be the right distro for you.
Absolutely, I eventually found my distro, which is SUSE.
I tried mandrake since 2 years ago, but somehow never paid attention to Suse. Mandrake is not bad, I like it because it can automount CDROM and FAT/NTFS ,
REDHAT I tried too, not bad but I have to mount those things manually.
Knoppix, ubuntu, slackware, debian , PClinux etc, i tried their liveCD, but they are not impressive to me.
SUSE, is my final selection. Until a better one appeares?
Fedora is very impressive too, but unfortunately, it is so difficult to mount NTFS (need to download and install a specific package), and it can't mount music CD.
So, i gave up.

Linux does not mount audio cd's, you use an application like kscd, gnome-cd-player, xmms etc to play them. I agree with you about the NTFS part.
in SUSE , whenever i pop in a CD, it will automount and prompt me to open it or not, but this is not the case in fedora, i have to mount it with ISO9600 file type. Very tedious.
