Hello:

I am using Mandrake 10.1 and KDE. When I go to "system/configure/mandrake update" it asks the usual questions, then it says it is downloading a file with the extension .cz, I think.

Then it returns an error as follows:

"its impossible to retreive the list of new packages from the media update source." then it says it is either misconfigured or should be removed and reinstalled.

The only problem for me is I do not know which app should be removed and reinstalled.

Has anyone else run into this?

What it means is that the mirror you selected needs to be removed and reinstalled . Either the mirror you are trying to access is having problems or the path is wrong. Try selecting another mirror and see how you go, I had to try a couple before i got one that worked when i first set mine up.

The .cz file is the URL and path to synthesis/hdlist, which is the list of packages available to be updated for your system. When you clicked on Mandrake update in the control centre it would have given you a list of mirrors to choose from ,those are what have the .cz file you are talking about. Simply choose another mirror.
