Mandrake Firewall Internet Connections

I just installed mandrake 8.2 firewall. The probelm i am having is that im not sure it is connected to the interent. It seems to be getting an IP from comcast but i cant ping anything. Also i think the IP is wrong. When i plug my cable modem into my router it gets an ip of 68.42.197.61 the firewall still gets a class A ip but its not the same. Lets say it is correct why cant I ping anytihing. How do I go about sharing the connection. I have two nics in there one has a static IP and the other that is connected to my cable modem is dhcp. If there is anything else anyone needs to know please let me know. I am a newbie with this and i would appreciate any help I can get.

I'm a newbie also, but I had the same symptoms. The problem I had was I configured shorewall, then updated my system via MCC, and it overwrote the config file for shorewall. So I could connect, but not ping anything (or telnet or ftp, etc...). It was because my firewall (shorewall) wasn't letting me. Have you done any automatic updates lately, so maybe a config file got reset? Are you using shorewall? If so, check /etc/shorewall/shorewall.conf. If you turn off your firewall, does your internet connection work okay? If so, it's not a firewall issue (or at least not the firewall you think). Wish I could be more help.

I don't run a LAN at home, but the Mandrake Control Center has an icon under "Networks and Internet" called "Share Internet Connection" (at least on MDK 10.0 Official) --> if that doesn't help you, I'm afraid I can't offer anything. Good luck!
