Mandrake 10.1: Radeon 9200SE Dual Monitor

Hello, more experienced people than me,

I'm currently using Mandrake 10.1. Running KDE for the window manager.

I have a Radeon 9200SE which has two outputs. Because of this I can run two monitors and span the desktop (quite easy to do in linux)

I'm running the default radeon drivers that came with the Madrake 10.1 distro and can't seem to figure out how to enable desktop spanning. Going through the various GUI options everything mentioned that I need two adaptors.

If anyone can help me with the following I'd be very greatful:

1) Can I use desktop spanning with the ATI Radeon 9200SE
2) Do I need to download specific drivers to do it
3) Most importantly: How do I do it? (KDE, Editing a config file, 3rd party app from ATI etc?)

Kind Regards,

Adam

I see you made the same mistake as me. My condolences. The driver from ATI claims to be able to do this, but it clashes with my setup. Go to ATI's site, download the (very outdated) Xorg version of the driver, forcefully install it, do the standard readme thing, then run the configurator (aticonf, or some such). Be prepared to answer some serious hardware questions (like the horizontal and vertical frequency ranges for your monitors, etc).

The driver sucks, the installer sucks, the config sucks, etc. An ATI employee I met said to watch out for some exciting new linux drivers/etc some time soon, that was like 4-6 months ago.

I'm getting an nvida soon.
