Mandrake 10.1 booting in a loop

I had a difficult time trying to install 10.1 on my notebook. Once I hit "enter" to start the install process, the computer would hang at "enabling PMCIA cards". So I had to restart and hit F1 help instead. From there I entered at the boot prompt to use the kernal alt1 or alt0, then ultimately had to navigate to select boot from CD. The install went normal from there. After the install I was prompted to reboot. Once I rebooted, Lilo Graphical started as it should have and gave me my choices. Any choice I choose including fail safe, simply restarts the computer. The failsafe selection as well as Linux Enterprise attempt to check the BIOS, but ultimately the computer keeps looping to restart. I partitioned the drive before install. I had wiped out everything, and started all over again with hda0. However if I try to configure the boot load I am given the choice of hda0, hda1, hda5, hfd0. Has anybody seen this? Any suggstions? Thank you. TOM

It sounds like you have several partitions on the same hard drive to me. Try to repartition the hard drive so you'll only have hda0 and hda1. If I remember correctly, HDF0 is a CD-ROM drive.

Is there a way to repartition without having to reinstall? Each time I insert the ISO to upgrade, it blows through the partition to see what I have loaded.

when repartitioning, does it matter if the primary partition is Ext2 or Journalised FS? What is the difference? Thanks.
