Linux Madrake on Windows XP

The floppy idea is good, but you should first try booting from the DVD/CD using the alternative kernel.

If you flip to the additional options (I forget what it's called) and/or text screen you can specify which kernel to load up as it starts installation...

Select the ALTERNATIVE kernel (2.4) using the provided instructions.

opjose, that does sound like the way to go.

I didn't know that option existed (i wish I had). This would be a far simpler solution

On another thread someone posted that the alternative kernels are called

Ati0 (for 2.6) and Ati1 (for 2.4).

At least in that particular case, it completely cured the user's inability to install Mandrake.

He started with Ati1 and did a full install that way.

This worked wereas the stock kernel would freeze during the initial installation startup.
