Cool Lilo error and KPP acting strange - please help!

Hello

I have two interesting problems that I cannot seem to find help for in any archive on the internet and hoped you may be able to help me!

I have a Compaq Presario, dual boot LILO into Win2k and Mandrake 9.
When I select Linux from Lilo I get an error message Block Move Error 0XAE, after pressing enter about a dozen times the happy words Loading Linux..... appear!

Is there something I can do about this or do you think it might be a crap-paq issue?

My other problem is KPPP - which seems to be happy workig after logging in as root in Mandrake Control Center, Network and INternet, Connection, Expert MOde, Connect..... however if I choose KPPP from the start button at the start of the toolbar it will not work! Unable to resolve any hosts, ping anywhere....

SO if you could please shed any light on either of these I would be so happy!

Thank you
Amy.

please, describe more acurately what happens when you click on Kppp icon. Had it configurated before? is everything okay?, I mean telephon number, username, password, authentification, DNS servers and everithing? Perhaps you configurated all these items on MDK control center and missed to do it in Kppp? Kppp goes with a very good help documentation, it can guide you through an step by step configuraton procedure and lots more!. I'll be happy to hear from you.

Dear Oski

Okydoakey, when I go to 'K' networking, remote access, KPPP my login, carrier, password, phone number, modem are all set up exactly as they are seen when i go into the Mandrake control center and select expert mode and connect there and that KPPP comes up... one thing I did notice is that the names of the carrier are spelt differently. One is Öptus and the other optus, all lower case. Which leads me to believe that what you were saying about having them set up differently in two areas may be the case.

The KPP in mandrake control center has extra tabs ... IP, DNS, LOgin script and Execute that the other one does not have. I have this set to dynamic IP Address, default gateway, optusnet.com.au and configuration automatic.
In all other ways both versions, the start menu KPPP and the mandrake control center KPPP are completely identical (other than one having a capital and the other not as their description).

I tried again tonight to log on to the internet via the start button KPPP to no avail, and then through the control center which has brough me here writing to you.

On the block move error prob i am having i digged even deeper today and found all the lilo error codes in the entire world except for the 0xae that I am having. There have been other people in the world with compaq that have had this prob, but no one has been able to shed any light on it. Lesson learnt here: my next pc i build from scratch using generic parts!

thanks oski and look forward to hearing your thoughts,
Amy.

Make a boot floppy as soon as possible, that way if you can not access Mandrake with Lilo you wont be locked out.

You'll find these "extra tabs" also in Kppp. Configuration>Tab Accounts..click on your account>Edit...and you'll find all tabs like are: Dial, IP, Gateway, DNS, Script..., Execute, etc. Check everything is exactly as is on MDK control center. Post what is the output of the "register" Is the modem really dialing? moreover, do Kppp find the modem? Did you try to browse the internet? What complaints your web browser?. What modem do you have and where is connected (internal, external, port etc)

Anyway, I think you must priorize the other problem with the boot sequence, sorry I can't help you because I'm only few months with Linux.
Follow the advice of making a boot floppy, as this problem is an scaring one. By the way, hit on help button in Kppp and you'll find it newbie friendly. Good luck!
