aMSN

I also don't use kopete. I use aMSN. It looks pretty much like a clone of messenger. So far, i have no problems using it.

amsn.sourceforge.net

If you're lucky enough you'll find a good binary (one that works) for your distro; if not, you can try the auto-installer binary for Linux. Have luck!

To help you, we'd have to know what distro you're using, what program you're attempting to install and how you're attempting to install it.

Kewl! Well, if you installed Gaim, I think you're going to like it a lot better than Kopete.

in that directory, type "./configure && make && make install", then its all installed, and just make a link to it on your desktop, or if your in kde, you can simply hit Alt+F2 and type in gaim

it doesnt matter, just remember where you put them, and type those commands into that directory in your favorite shell

and for future refrence.... %99.99999 of all linux programs come with a README file and a large portion of those come with an INSTALL file, read them
