Kernel 2.4 with Mandrake 10.1

How do I configure Mandrake 10.1 to boot using the 2.4 series kernel?

I have the 10.1 Official download CD's 1 to 4. Do I have to do any installing? I upgraded from 9.2.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards,
Bill Dika

When going from 9.x to 10.x a clean install is preferably.

Many problems arise because of the differences in the configuration files otherwise.

I'd advise you to do a fresh install.

I've even posted directions on how to do this WITHOUT having to back up your system to save your old files, on other threads.

Is an option available in mdk 10.1 to boot using kernel 2.4. If so how to enable it.

Kernel 2.6 is better is automouting USB devices and is faster. However, some old programs downloaded from sites like freshmeat.net may not work in 2.4 unless updated.

I doubt you can install only the 2.4 kernel and not the 2.6. I believe that you can install the 2.4 kernel source, compile it, and run off of it, but 2.6 is installed and run to start out with.
