I don't really want to upgrade to Mandrake 10 at the moment (I'm just beginning to persuade my wuife to move over from Win ME to Linux so that I can get my hands on the 10Gs of useless diskspace occupied by that scurvy beast!!! Therefore I want to keep it as stable as possible for now) but there are certain USB fixes in the latest kernel patches that I need.

Now, yes, I know I COULD patch the kernel - but, again, I want ot keep this particular machine is bog-standard Mandrake as possible.

Hence the question - is it feasible to use the 2.4.25 Kernel RPMS from 10 on a 9.2 system?

Not sure about the actual RPMs but you could definitely upgrade the kernel. The nice part about it is that you can boot the old kernel in case something doesn't work after the upgrade - just an entry for it to your lilo.conf or the grub config (whichever bootloader you're using). Possibly the nicest part about Linux is that it's so customizable so why keep it standard (boring)? For that you might as well go with Windows.

Also, I'm not sure what your motivation for wanting to upgrade the kernel to 2.4 is since 2.6x is the latest version and it's helluva a lot better and faster than 2.4.
