Installing SATA secondary drive in mandriva?

I am a linux newbie and have been using Mandriva 2005 with no problems recently except the following problem:

I have Mandriva installed on an 80gb Maxtor IDE Hard drive no problems, but when i try to plug in my 200gb Maxtor SATA drive which i use for storage mandriva refuses to boot. I have no idea why this is and would be very grateful if someone could help as i would like to access that drive.

Many Thanks,

Talking Could we have a lil' more info?

Hi, this is indeed rather strange, but could you tell us how the drives are set up, what hardware you're using (what mobo/SATA controller) and at what stage the boot refuses to work.

Does the BIOS look for a boot record in the SATA or IDE drives first?
