I have a question

Does Mandrake 10.1 come with the C++ compiler? cause Suse 9.1 personal doesn't ... what i mean do i have to install anything other than Mandrake 10.1 to start programming in C++.

One more thing .... what are CD2 & 3 for?

Thanks in advance.

It depend on your installation. I think you already have it. CD 2 & 3 are additional software for your Mandrake.

Try to type in console
$ gcc

See what the output is.......

Yes it comes with a FULL suite of developement software...

In addition if you want other languages you can also set up your URPMI sources: http://www.zebulon.org.uk/urpmi_en.html

And install a slew of other languages, interpreters, libraries, developement tools, debuggers, etc.

I downloaded this version Mandrakelinux-10.1-Community-Download-CD1.i586.iso are you guys sure cause i can't connect to the internet to download any RPM's for stuff ... and can't keep wasting CD's.

I've read topics were people say theirs no GCC/G++ included?

Learn to use urpmi. Then try to install gcc from urpmi.

Maybe like this: urpmi gcc

Or try to install gcc from the installation disc. Maybe gcc is in cd number 2 or 3.

It sounds like you have a bad install or are missing symlinks...

/usr/bin/gcc symlinks to /etc/alternatives/gcc

At a root console, type this...

urpmi gcc-cpp gcc-c++ gcc-3.4.1-4mdk

It may prompt you for the disks.
