hi dave 37
the examples i will give you work for mandrake/gnome should work for most distros
I find the best way to run samba is to have it load on boot so it starts as a process then there are a few ways to access your win boxes
1) on gnome right click your taskbar , create a new launcher, enter your command to mount your winbox (making sure it works first) have it run in a terminal so you can see the output and any verbose thats generated you can input to ex: password. , give it an icon, now its an executable from your taskbar.
2)fill out the command into your editor of choice, save it as a textfile , do this as root. now pull up a terminal and ghange into the directory where you saved the textfile and do this #chmod u+x <textfile name> you should now have a file that is executable no longer just a textfile. this can then be symlinked or run from a terminal by just typing the filename.
3) to run at start up you can either have gnome run it as an application on start or a script by execution from the window managers start up options.
