"Linux Gateway" for Terminal Services
Hi all...
It is my first time in this forum...
I am testing RDP connection with TS. And it works greats !!! During my researches I heard about a "Linux gateway" solution where I can connected my Linux WS´s throught that gateway to a Microsoft Terminal Services and I will use only one TSCAL. That will be great, because I will save some money (I have 12 ws´s). Does any one know anything about that? Does someone know how to implemented that feature?
Thanks in advanced
Andre

are you talking about going from your *nix box to a M$ (win2k/2k3/XP) box via TS?
if that is the case i have found rdesktop to be extreemly fast, light, and stable. even better so then the newest remote control from M$.
if on the other hand you are talking about going from M$ to *nix via some kind of TS, you will need to setup vncserver and use some kind of vnc viewer client like tight vnc or realvnc.
you can also SSH from M$ into *nix via putty, or you can do sftp with winSCP. both are free and work very well for getting connected to a *nix box from M$.
putty will alow you full access to CLI terminal, and winSCP gives you a cuteFTP like FTP servers without running a FTP server between the systems.

I think Andre was asking about some kind of "proxy" for terminal services. That way he would only need one TS license.
I've heard that rdesktop has an undocumented command line switch that allows it to connect without using a license... or it appears to be a Windows 2000 client (Terminal Services for 2000 allow win2000 clients to connect for free).

not quite. win2k server has 2 administrative TS license built into the OS and win2k3 server has 1.
id have to read up on the man page again for rdesktop being able to bypass the client license. as far as i know the administrative ones are hardwired into the OS.
same goes for XP, but it only has a single TS connect, and it is not as powerful as the ones in 2k and 2k3 server. by that i mean it does not have all the function of the server based ones.

The solution that I heard is that you have to configure the TS 2000 or 2003 in app mode and buy 0NE TS Device CAL...You do note use the Windows TS 2000/2003 administrative license....
Dorian...Didi you know what is that undocumented command?

All my WS will access my ERP system, but not at same time...Reading the MS Doc for TS CAL Licensing it says that if I have 100 ws that will use the TS, even knowing that I will only use 25 user at the sametime. I must buy 100 TS CAL !!!
