hii..,i just install mandrake 9.1 and going smoothly. But when it finished,.. i didn't heard the sound, the hardware is Ess 1869 ,......and it's running normal in win98,....
at the mandrake control centre says that no sound hardware is available,......and mandrake did not detect it,......what should i do....
from your cds install the file sndconfig, then open a terminal and type su to get to root password prompt then turn on speakers and type sndconfig.
You have checked that sound is running in mcc services?
sndconfig will then pause a long time and eventually come back with what it see as your card, if you are happy with response let it play a test sound, then save and overwrite your current file.
some other issues are, did you install ALSA , SDL MESA? we will look at that if above fails
where can get mcc services...???,............
i've already install sndconfig,...and "Ess 1869" is'nt in the sndconfig list hardware,....there are 1868,..etc....
but when i configure it to "soundblaster",...i heard a sound....
not perfect really,....when i start xmms ,..the sound is cracked,.....
soo what should i do next...???,...i'm sorry can u explain to me , what is Alsa,SDL MESA....????
Staying with sndconfig for the moment, you can select other entities and listen to the test sound quality, I have ess 1868 oops to you but I can still use sb and around 4 others equally well.
ours cards are supported as ess 18xx includes 1868 or 1869 ok?
Now in kcontrol there is a sound section and you can enable ARts and configure also or oss etc. If test sound button is greyed out and you know sound is working cos you heard sound at right volume but crackles, then click on the second tab and pull down the option that will currently read automatic and select oss if you have run sndconfig.
(3) Alsa is on your cds somewhere so run mcc and install new software, or select delete software to see what all the files are called including the help files.
(4) Mesa is Gl type graphics and I was thinking you may have made changes to that which may have changed a setting. and ditto for SDL.
