Error Message : Pango will not work correctly

I'm a newbie and managed to completly stuff my system!
I tried to ./configure --enable-gui mplayer and had a problem with GTK. So I decided to get the latest packages and install them. Needless to say I stuffed it all up. Now, when I run drakxservices from the command line, i get the following error:

WARNING **: No builtin or dynamically loaded modules
were found. Pango will not work correctly. This probably means
there was an error in the creation of:
'/etc/pango/pango.modules'
You may be able to recreate this file by running pango-querymodules. at /usr/lib/libDrakX/ugtk2.pm line 654.

Doing the mentioned fix doesn't work, and the file actually already exists anyway.
Mozilla etc... still go OK, unlike some other threads I have read. The only other program I have found broken (so far) is anything from the system menu, eg: mandrake control centre.. et all don't display any text.
I think the problem "may" be the following:

[root@localhost blair]# rpm -qa | grep -i "glib"
glibc-devel-2.3.3-10mdk
glib-gettextize-2.2.3-1mdk
libglib1.2-1.2.10-11mdk
perl-Glib-1.021-3mdk
libglib2.0_0-2.2.3-1mdk
glibc-2.3.3-10mdk
libglib2.0_0-devel-2.2.3-1mdk
libtaglib0-1.0-1mdk

It appears to be a "conflict" in that there are 2 versions of libglib installed? I have tried to remove the latter version, and have tried to --oldpackage (can't get this command to work) to get the older version back(as I think this is what I need) but to no avail.
Another thing I installed was rpm -ivh gal2.0-1.99.11-4mdk.i586.rpm
which I think may have created the entire problem....
And no, I don't have a backup of anything (I don't know what to back up yet....)

I bit off more than I can chew here, but this does not seem to be an isolated problem, just that what I have done seems unique from reading through other forums.
In future I stick to rpm packages.

Any help greatly appreciated,
Thank in advance, Blair.

I managed to fix this myself, but for those of you that may also come across the same problem, this is what I did:
Did a google search on urpmi usage and did the following from a shell:
urpmi.addmedia updates \ with ../base/hdlist.cz
ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/distrib...pdates/10/RPMS \
with ../base/hdlist.cz

then urpmi.updates -a

It required a total of 677MB of pacakages, but downloaded/installed them and fixed itself.

{if u get unable to connect or CD error, open mozilla and ftp://ftp.sunet.org and navigate to the latest RPM directory and copy/paste it to the ftp thingy address}
