I have Mandriva 2005 LE installed on my machine and I am running the KDE V3.3 desktop. I have one partition formatted as XFS to handle large files. My problem is in trying to copy a 4.3 GB file from a DVD to the XFS partition. All that ever comes across is a 2.0 GB file.
When I look at the DVD using kDiskFree, it reports the DVD size as 4.3 GB. However, when I look at it with the file manager it reports the file size as 2.0 GB.
What utility are you using to copy the file from the DVD? Are you just using the cp command or the dd command or are you using a DVD application like K3b? I recommend the latter. K3b is very good. It is just a front end to command line utilities to use the DVD drive but it does a great job.
If I wanted to copy the contents of a regular DVD to disk I would use K3b. If the DVD is a movie then that is another story. If you are trying to rip a DVD movie then Google will show you many web sites that have complete instructions.
You have to be aware that the DVD on disk data format is different than the on disk data format for CDs or for hard disks. Unfortunately that means that we have to do different things to get data that is stored on them or to put data onto them.
