Ok, now I've done it. In my list of bugfix updates, I've had :
Name: harddrake-ui Version: 10.1-27.2.101mdk, Name: harddrake Version: 10.1-27.2.101mdk, Name: drakxtools-newt Version:10.1-27.2.101mdk, Name: drakxtools-backend Version: 10.1-27.2.101mdk, Name: drakxtools Version: 10.1-27.2.101mdk
Listed for a couple of weeks. All attempts to install updates say bad sigs, I try anyway and install fails. Tried using different update mirrors and same result. Had the brilliant idea this morning to uninstall the drakxtools thinking that if I reinstall them, maybe I could get the list of bugfixes installed. Ok, tried to urpmi drakxtools and low and behold failure. If someone knows how to reinstall drakextools, or some other good advice I'm all ears. Below is the output of my failed reinstallation via urpmi if it is of any help.

Everything already installed..............grrrrrrrrr still don't work
I still have many drake tools left installed and working, but the Mandrake Control Center that ties them together as one is gone, as well as some tools such as certain hardware configurators. MCC is my main concern.
it looks to me like something got borked in your rpm headers, which contains the info about the rpms, what depends they need, etc.
try the following in this order..........
in terminal as root do............
Code:
updatedb
that should update your rpm data base & hopefully fix any problems with it. try installing the apps then. if that don't work..........
open konqueror file manager in superuser mode. (open a terminal, su to root, type konqueror). go to /var/cache/urpmi/headers, /partial, & /rpms. delete all files in those directories, run updatedb again, then try installing. if that don't work...........
it could be that one or more of your sources are corrupted or the mirror is out of sync. go to Mandrake Control Center->software management->media. remove all sources except for your CD sources (if you have them). then in konqueror superuser mode go to /var/lib/urpmi & delete any files you might find that reference the sources you just removed. delete ONLY files related to removed sources, nothing else. then go to Easy URPMI or Alternate Easy URPMI & re-add sources via the instructions there. get update, contrib, main, plf, & jpackage (if you want java stuff) sources. i'd highly suggest using the Proax mirrors from France. they are very reliable, rarely down, & always up to date. and, they are fast. i'm in the US & i use them with no problems. after re-adding the sources, again try to install the packages.
if none of those ideas work, then i'm sorta stumped at the moment. please post back with any successes or failures.
Updating database did not work (it did for the first time ask for the cd1 to retrieve rpms and acknowlege they were not installed though), but your second try did, deleted "partial" db, and deleted rpm's sitting in /var/cache/urpmi/headers/rpms, updatedb, smooth install of drakconf with dependants and restart session: got my Mandrake Control Center back.
