Fedora 2 problem, do I need to reinstall?
Not sure what caused it, but all of a sudden my Fedora (I think it's core 2, the cds I got were core 1 but it says 2.something in GRUB) would sit at the graphical boot screen when it started up. I forget what the message in console mode said, but after trying to wait for it to load (my patience ran out after probably 10 or 15 minutes), I decided to boot from the CDs and do a repair. Now it doesn't even get to the graphic part, it says something like "kernel not found, try passing init to kernel" (can't remember exactly). A friend of mine who's knowledgeable in Redhat told me I'd have to reinstall it. Since it was my first linux and really just an experiment I didn't keep much in the way of files on it, except for one thing I'd really hate to lose: all my email which is downloaded into Evolution.
My question is: Is there a way to fix this without reinstalling? If not, will the reinstall overwrite my email files? And if so, is there a way I can mount my linux partition under windows XP (done it the other way around before) and get the files off it so I could reinstall and put those back in the folder afterwards? (if this is the case you'd have to give me a file pathway since I have no idea where it'd be or what it would be called)
(sorry if this is in the wrong forum)
EDIT: Nevermind, I got it to work by doing "upgrade" from the installation cds.
