i want to backup some of the data from my linux laptop(Mandrake 9.1) to a CD. I do have a CD burner. But i don't know which software would be the best for burning a CD from Mandrake.
Originally posted by sorrodos Are you using KDE? If so, try k3b.
I have tried it (Mandrake 9.1). I go through the setup routine -- which correctly identifies my drives. Then, when I run the program itself, it does not recognize that I even have any CD drives!!!
You would think that somebody would have tested this before shipping it.

Well, it certainly works for me. Your hardware probably just isn't supported.
I am having different problem, my Phillps CDRW isn't on the list of supported drives.
It will find it and read from it but won't write to it.
I am not finished playing with it yet, I am going to pull the drive and write down the model number and other info and submit it to the address below. Maybe the developer can help me out.
All of these GUI programs run cdrecord, and that is where no problem is, cdrecord it runs OPC and then sends and error:
cmd finished after 25.952s timeout 60s
/usr/bin/cdrecord: OPC failed.
/usr/bin/cdrecord: fifo had 16 puts and 0 gets.
/usr/bin/cdrecord: fifo was 0 times empty and 0 times full, min fill was 100%.
Writing time: 28.595s

You need to make sure SCSI Emulation is turned on:
