What message do you receive if you try to cd to the /usr directory? It is a standard directory in Linux so it is odd that a) you don't think you have it and b) that your system works at all without it!
Normally when you install the kernel-source (and I suspect kernel-source-stripped) package /usr/src/linux is created. It is a symbolic link to /usr/src/linux-kernel-version. You can create this link in a terminal window as root with:
For examply, if the installed kernel is version 2.6.17-14mdv, the directory to which you will create your link will be /usr/src/linux-2.6.17-14mdv and the command to create this link will be:
I found my /usr directory - but because you asked I'm using Mandriva 2007 Spring One.
Thanks - I did that and now I have a blinking red 'linux' box. I can't 'cd' into it, but I've decided the tutorial I'm using isn't working for me anyway.
That's OK. I asked in another thread on LQ how to set up my zip drive and I did get it working.
I was using this tutorial that wanted me to configure the kernel and it had me completely confused. So at least thanks to this thread, I'm not quite as confused
