I get this error message from my stepmania game:
ALSA: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.7rc1.
ALSA Driver: 0: Ensoniq AudioPCI [AudioPCI], device 0: ES1371/1 [ES1371 DAC2/ADC], 1/1 subdevices avail
ALSA Driver: 0: Ensoniq AudioPCI [AudioPCI], device 1: ES1371/2 [ES1371 DAC1], 1/1 subdevices avail
Couldn't load driver ALSA: Not enough substreams for hardware mixing, using software mixing
ALSA: Software mixing at 44100hz

Other progs give same kinda error... Sounds work but quality is poor.

I'm afraid i have the same problem. I'm running Gentoo, with kernel 2.6.10-r5. I'm not sure of any other details that i might need to include, but i'll give the whole message stepmania gives me when i start up:
Code:
ALSA: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.6 (Sun Aug 15 07:17:53 2004 UTC).
ALSA Driver: 0: NVidia nForce2 [nForce2], device 0: Intel ICH [NVidia nForce2],1/1 subdevices avail
ALSA Driver: 0: NVidia nForce2 [nForce2], device 2: Intel ICH - IEC958 [NVidia nForce2 - IEC958], 1/1 subdevices avail
Couldn't load driver ALSA: Not enough substreams for hardware mixing, using software mixing
ALSA: Software mixing at 44100hz
Sound driver: ALSA-sw
anyone had the same problem and get it fixed? thanks.
