ALSA config

Where is Alsaconf? I have installed Alsa-util, I have updated Alsa-util. I cannot find Alsaconf. It is not on any config menu. It is not on any tab. I have searched the files and find no alsaconf.
I have wasted ten hours trying to get the sound chip working.

Finally got alsaconf to run - found a driver - says it stated alsa - STILL no sound.

Are all the distros like this or is there one that actually works?

By default alsa is muted
use alsamixer to change the volumes (m key to unmute/mute channel)
then type "alsactl store" as root to save the settings
