When booting from CD to install, a hang occurs on the agpgart.o module. It is a Gateway ALR 8200 Server from 4 years ago. I can't find any information relating the installation to this motherboard (video card built in). I also checked Gateway's site for info on what the video card may be, but it only references Cirus Logic drivers for NT (?).
This is my first Linux install, so please bear with me.
hmm.. i have to go to bed now, so I cant help you in detail just now.
I would recommend before you start playing with a distro, to get a knoppix live cd. It boots from a cd and sets up a whole linux sistem. It has a very good hardware support, and its very good for recoverying after something went wrong. Try booting with a knoppix cd, and if it works, try to find out what hardware knoppix finds and what modules it has loaded:

Hey there, this is my first ever post to anything like this, here goes.
Upon experiencing the same with debian 3.1 I rebooted and chose safe mode and all went well.... Maybe there's something in doing this?
Oh boy, I install and use Mandrake 9.2 here at work it's the primary OS for our store systems. The first thing I'd do is make sure your cd's are in good condition. You're failing as part of the install, correct? Which part of the install is failing. Mandrake 9.2 has multiple types of installs so which type are you running. Which step are you in (not just which object module is failing) and what package is being installed when the thing fails. If you're running one of the graphical installs click the detail button and you'll be able to see which package is giving you grief.
