I was wondering who here likes LQ, over other websites, as they have resisted the Web 2.0 urge and stayed nice and old/good looking? 2000 was a great year in web design, too bad it is gone now..
This was created because I was bored and had nothing better to do than share my opinion..

I like the layout here plus diversity. Tho when sites block adds (or I do) they could utilize that blank spot.

yeah, i prefer simple sites without too much javascript and such.
fluxbb for example.
but LQ's custom(?) forum software has some nice xtra features.
it looks like web 1.0, but there's a lot of functionality i think.

but there's also very new and simple web design.
let's call it the post-2.0 web.

When XHTML came along, I was jubilating... (“Juppiee-lating”). Finally the rules are imposed and everyone will be happy.

Now look at what they've done. It's spectacular, sure. But we will be blessed with the darned rotten HTTP “forever”, as nobody can hope to ever even “touch” just the worst misconceptions in the protocol. We've stacked more and more rubbish on top of the poor web-standards and everybody is grinning like on dope.

Now they “program” web-pages and ask, how something must be “designed” in Wordpress...
Web 2? - This Is Hell.

Web 1.0 was static HTML 3 websites.

Courageous enough, proving this point may become a depressing experience. Maybe you should just say that LQ wants to be LQ as opposed to other sites, which claim to be Web 2, instead.

I dunno LQ is looking rather dated to me especially without the ability top use custom avatars and the site being rather spartan.
There is a way to be more presentable even by 2000 standards.

LQ works for me.

All that active stuff, whatever you call it is useless to me.

I'm on a specific website because I want specific information, not because I want to see a slide show.

To be honest, I prefer the offline reader model we used to use in the dial-up days. I miss ameol/CIX.

LQ is fast, usable, and works on anything. If you want pretty pictures, go read a comic.

Well there are ways to modernize without being too flashy.
There can be compromises.
And yes I did use windows to make my last post in this topic so what, I use linux as my primary and only boot into windows once in a blue moon

Ahhh, misty water-colored memories of Blue Wave and Qedit (now The Semware Editor). I used to have pile of Qedit macros back in the BBS days.

I'll echo what rtmistler said. LQ works. When I want eye-candy and click-bait, I read seattlepi.com

And taglines. Taglines were so much more fun than signatures.
