View [More] New Posts

Whenever I click on "View New Posts", it appears to display only a limited amount of posts. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I would like for it to show me MUCH More, so I can reply to people that may have been forgotten.

My question is, will the "Default Thread Age Cut Off" setting in "My LQ > Edit Options" adjust this? If not, is it possible for me to adjust this at all?

Second:
Additionally, "Default Thread Age Cut Off" gives near ZERO indication of what exactly it does. Could you please write a better explanation for this option and how it affects the browsing experience?

"View New Posts" shows a limited amount of posts by design - it shows whatever number of posts are "new" since your last visit. The view latest functionality may be more along the lines of what you're looking for.

Is this function available? If so, where?

Making things only available in javascript is bad karma.

It's also in the second main menu on the right hand side. We do try to make sure all javascript for core functionality degrades gracefully, but you'll certainly miss some of the more advanced functionality.

Jeremy, there certainly seems to be a bug somewhere as I also have this problem from time to time. The bar at the bottom shows a lot of pages, but after 3 or 4, there is a search error page. And it isn't anything to do with settings as I can read 10 pages or more on a good day.
Further, on occasions, the page number bar is simply missing! Then I only get to read one page!
I hope you can sort this out for our continued enjoyment.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm not able to reproduce it in any way.

petersum -
There have been times I wasn't able to access further pages when opening 'view new posts'. It seems to happen if you don't open all the pages [1, 2, 3, ...] immediately. If you wait several minutes before going from page to page, you will probably notice the links have gone bad.

Sepero, loading LQ is a rather slow process at best. Trying to load several pages almost at once is not an option.
However, you have suggested a possible reason for the problem - stale links.

Pakistan is just about the opposite side of the world to the USA, so any US based site needs to send each packet the equivalent to one-and-a-half trips around the world (request-send-acknowledge). Even at the speed of light, that delay is noticeable - and the internet certainly doesn't operate that fast!

It takes time, so perhaps the links should last a little longer than they do now.
