do we need a new banner thing that says become a contributing member bla bla bla....cuz i can make that in flash if u want, or maybe just an animated .gif whatever is better....and i think the images i posted are fairly bright and too colorful, i shall make some more relaxing ones that are easy on the eyes....

Feel free to make a new banner for contributing members if you would like. No flash though. Thanks!

Here's my shot at it:

http://www.jontopia.com/lq/lq.gif
http://www.jontopia.com/lq/lq2.gif

Both are twice the size of the final one just so they can be enlarged if they ever need to be (I'll scale them down if jeremy wants them). More on the way (eventually)

Hey, IceNine, I like the second one. I know that it's been done before, but I still think that the ol' barcode thing is quite good. Cheers for contributing... we seem to be getting quite a few now!

we should depart from the classic TUX logo
I know that's heresy but with a site this big we
should have something independent
I'll try and kick up a logo...

My opinion is that some of these examples are a bit too big to fit in the upper left corner...

Ztyx, I think some of the people (myself included) who made logos made them bigger than the original on purpose incase jeremy wanted to use them elsewhere on the site and needed a bigger version. You can always shrink them but you can't enlarge it .

Oh, I see. The purpose if this discussion was in the beginning just to change the image in the upper left corner...

Yeah, but you know how things tend to go slightly off on a tangent, or even completely off topic (need I mention dolphins?). It's always good, though, to get people involved in things like this.

the logo 's look good in general, but they don't generally seem to capture what i believe is the erm.. "essence" of lq. Thick black outlines etc... look a bit l33t-ish, i think, and image is everything. everything here is very clear and open and bright, and the site should be taken as a very open place, so the image really needs to reflect it, no gimmicks (e.g no alternative penguin pictures. original Tux or nothing). not to say that there can't be any personality.. it just needs to be a very respectful personality!
