Request for sticky on Ubuntu Forum!

Hi!

Ubuntu Linux is, in my opinion, a very good distribution and apparently, the number of peoples using it is growing very fast everyday.

Based on these facts, I would like to ask a sticky about http://ubuntuguide.org/ since 99% of the questions a newcomer would ever ask is already answered there.

That would most likely reduce the redundant questions we get in regular basis and free us some bandwidth for more problematic questions.

Best Regards!

Come on. "That would most likely reduce the redundant questions" Seriously?? In my however long here, I have seen sticky after sticky created - Trickykid created one and mention the MS Linux distro and GKrellM so that no one would ever have to mention it again. Within days, the threads returned.

The problem with stickies is this: the conscientious members, the sort who do read the manual, will read the threads. The remainder will just post blindly, mashing the keys with their fists in order to get that thread out as quickly as possible.

I will have to agree with you XavierP. I cannot remember how many times I've suggested trickykid's sticky to "Useful information about installing programs" (or something similar) when replying to a member. Maybe we should just forget the whole thing

Regards!

I don't have a problem with a sticky in each distro forum for common questions and suggestions, a long as it's maintained.

The sticky should be something like:
Ubuntu - About Ubuntu
Quote:
Ubuntu is a Debian based distibution that ships with the latest Gnome release as well as a selection of server and desktop software that makes for a comfortable desktop experience off a single installation CD.
Helpful Ubuntu websites:

Answers to most common questions including how to install software, add repositories, etc can be found at Unofficial Ubuntu 5.04 Starter Guide

HOWTOS specific to Ubuntu can be found at: Official Ubuntu Forums

Ubuntu Wiki

Unofficial Ubuntu Linux 5.04 Addon CD
Quote:
Ubuntu Addon Zip (for Ubuntu 5.04 i386) selectively installs the following apps without an internet connection:
Java, flash-player + firefox plugin, adobe reader + firefox plugin, gFTP, multimedia codecs, mplayer (xmms is installed if you install mplayer), dvdplayback, xine, realplayer 10, thunderbird, gnomebaker, firestarter, nvidia 3D driver, samba server, ssh server, Japanese and Chinese input
Ubuntu is a Debian based distro, so most of the Debian documentation still applies also.
Debian -- Documentation

The above covers just about anything someone would need to know to get started using Ubuntu.
