With the system now in BETA, I've created a new announcement thread here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...n-beta-829543/

I'll continue to monitor both threads closely, so if you've already made a suggestion or comment in this thread there's no need to make it over there as well. If you feel my initial high level overview is missing anything or can be improved, let me know.

I actually didn't want to take that new thread off the zero reply list so I am posting here;

This statement of yours is somewhat contratictory with what you said before here http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ml#post4082436

Am I missing some point ?????

What *exactly* do you not understand. Those statements are clearly not contradictory, and NOTHING HAS CHANGED. After a single post a member can use the system but they will not give off rep (what is said in what you quoted). After a certain number of posts they can use the system and will give off rep (what is said in the linked post).

NOTE: I've moved your post, as after saying you weren't going to move the new thread off the 0 reply list, you did.

(Edit - in response to @anishakaul, not @Jeremy!) Not necessarily. If you join and make no posts, you are in the "New Member" group. If you make one post, you join the "Member" group. These groups are specific to LQ's vBulletin implementation and do not reflect the member titles that we all have.

What Jeremy is saying is that if you are a recent member of LQ and have a low number of posts, that weights your rep at a lower rate than a long standing/high posting member would have.

So for a member who has been here a month and made 4 posts, they can only give out low rep. If a member has been here for years and made 4000 posts, the rep they give will be higher.

@JEREMY;

AFAIK "clicking the "yes" on a helpful post" and thus adding to the repute points of the helper is considered to be using the reputation system.

The above quote of Post 498, states a new person needs to join the "member" group to "use the repute system". To join the "member" group a newbie requires 30 posts !!

and you said :
Quote:
The number of posts is quite low and is actually identical to the number needed to use the old Thanks system.
30 posts is "quite low" . Alright. Things are clear now.

anishakaul - NO, that's incorrect...for reasons that I have explained multiple times now and that Ray reiterated directly above your post:

I have been following this thread for quite a while now, I faintly remember you saying some thing like that in the *former* thread !

But still when you say "member", I tend to take it on the face value, since i could not find any FAQ where you mentioned your *internal* representation of status of the members. May be I have missed it !

And I could not see XaveirP's post since I was typing the above post that time !

I didn't say "member" though, I said "member group" (and then explicitly mentioned only needing a single post to avoid any confusion).

Yes I didn't intend to take that thread off the zero reply list, but due some confusion I still landed up there !!

Hi Jeremy,

I found an unwanted feature.....

Those that opted-out of this rep system can still be seen in detail right here: LQ Stats -> Top Reputations.

Could you fix that please?

druuna, thanks for the heads up - that is indeed a bug. Looking into it now.

Another fast fix by Jeremy.

Thanks!
