How to section

I'm always looking for a good "How to section" to send friends to, that I'm trying to switch them over to Linux, most are addicted to Windoze, which is worse then crack; what they need is a How to section with complete instructions and video's on how to do things in Linux that they normally do in Windoz; from simple things like Email, browsing, graphics, making video's, burning disk to advanced subjects like setting up a web server. You can host all the video's on Utube or some other server and just link to them, to save on bandwidth.

We have a tutorials section for things like this at LQ, although there are no videos at this time.

This has been suggested before, I don't know if it ever came to fruition. For now there's places like: How To Forge

That would be a great resource. Also, users could post questions that can be answered in how-to format.

This whole forum is one big how to when you think about it. People ask questions and either get pointed in the right direction for an answer or are given one. Granted it is not in a how to format per say but still.

Aside from the LinuxAnswers section, there are also quick a few howto's in the LQ Wiki.

I'm also a member at How to Forge; they have a nice screen shot format; but lets face it; video's make lazy Windoz users feel more at home; fast and easy; they don't read books or manuals; that's why they use Windoz to begin with; forums are great for people like us; but I'm talking about is bring in new people; who just want to know how to do something, and lets face it; video is the best format for teaching; even if its done in a screen shot slide show or what Windoz users know as Power Point Presentation.

We take every thing for granted, I've been using Unix since the 70's and now Linux and Unix; simple things we do everyday is something Window users can't figure out and give up on Linux; I set up a dual boot machine for a friend; just to find out he never used the Linux side; never figured out how to check his email or even open up Firebox; he did figure out how to delete files and mess up the system; never asked a question like how do I do this; making a user account out this forum didn't help either; he did come here and looked around, from the safety of his Windoz browser I might add.

Everyone always agree we need better "How to" sections and video's, but beyond the talk, it never happens; I'm as much to blame as anyone.
