Suggestion for new LQ section
// This was emailed directly to Jeremy, but I'd like to hear what other people think about this.
I had an idea on a site of my own, but due to hosting issues, and making it popular I rather make it a section of LinuxQuestions
the idea is this: WishLists.
For each program, distro, driver, desktop environment, etc etc there could be a wishlist created in which LinuxQuestions users are able to add things they would like done in the software in question, and also there should be a voting booth so that people can vote on which feature is the most important. This way software developers will know what is the most wanted stuff for them to make, and perhaps be reminded of things they hadn't even thought of.
Such a section would IMHO help development of Linux Software, and help people get more involved.
I myself could make the section in PHP/MySQL, and theme it so that it fits the site, so all you'd have to do is to upload it under the LinuxQuestion.org domain, and link to it from the front page. I see this as my chance to help develop the free software community, without learning C or other programming languages.
If the wishlists are successfull, maybe some day there could even be a bounty option so that people can pay money to see stuff fixed - I myself could pay a couple of bucks to make Gaim support file transfers in ICQ and MSN, I bet more people are willing to contribute this way!
// as a comment - I think the need for such a feature lies in the n00b support of linux. I myself consider myself a newbie, BugZilla scares me, and I've just recently learned the basics of IRC.
Also - a structured wishlist will also ease the overview on what is popularly considered as needed, and what is not. I doubt that IRC channel owners keep statistics, over what features are wished for and how many times.
