Getting more information while editing / answering
Hi Jeremy, I just answered a thread which has more than one page of posts (>15).
Now, in the lower part of the screen is a button like "Click here to review the whole thread". But a click just produces the first page of 15 posts, not the whole thread.
I do realize that there are some monster-threads which would render it impractical to really deliver all posts. So I suggest a field / button saying:
"This thread has nnn posts."
"Do you want do display all posts | the last mmm posts | the first kkk posts?"
where the user can edit or fill in the numbers mmm or kkk and select the appropriate action.
Would that be feasible from your side as the maintainer of LQ?
In your UserCP, I believe you can set the option to view NN posts per page.
I set it to 30. So you can change it to what you like. It is in "User Options".
I believe the reason that "view all posts in this thread" is not available is because it is impractical in cases where huge threads are involved (> 1000 posts).

Harishankar is correct - there is just no way to display all posts for some threads. You can adjust how many you see on one page, but there is a limit.

I was aware of the options in the user-CP, so thanks Harishankar and Jeremy. If you read my post again, you will see also that I duly considered the monster-threads.
What I was driving at was
a) there is a mis-labelled button on this site, which in some cases doesn't do what it says on it (i.e. "Click here to review the whole thread" may not happen. The thread I was referring to had 16 posts...).
b) I provided one possible solution to handle exactly this, which sh(c)ould be amended with the upper level of transferable posts.

Nonono . It's the line saying:
"This thread has more than 15 replies. Click here to review the whole thread. "
HowTo get there:
Select a thread with more than 15 posts (like this one).
Scroll to the bottom of the posts.
Click on the button "post reply".
Scroll to the bottom of the then displayed posts in reverse order.
And here you'll find, lo and behold:
"This thread has more than 15 replies. Click here to review the whole thread. "
The "here" is in reality the hyperlink to do the dirty deed which gets not done .
I'm sorry for not understanding your question. Correct me if I misunderstand.
Reviewing the "whole" thread while in reply mode means viewing it in the "normal thread display" view in another window (not the reply mode view). While the "whole" thread is displayed, it is still displayed on multipage view for threads > x replies as is done normally (where x=number of posts/page) and not with the full thread in one page.
it is just a convenience feature so that you can read the thread's earlier replies before posting.

@Harishankar
You understood perfectly. But the button generates a different expectation -- at least for me. I expected to see the whole thread, just as the line says:
"This thread has more than 15 replies. Click here to review the whole thread."
When I do it, a new window opens up with the original thread view open. I think that's what is supposed to happen. I can then browse the thread as if I'd opened it from a forum. If any of that makes sense.

Yeah sure, and in all its even saves some mouse-clicks.
Does anyone do programming here or am I just too literally minded? When you code "if - then - else - end" your program will do just that or you have found a serious compiler error That's probably why I expect to see the whole thread when the button says that this will happen (and not something else, like a part of the thread).
Okay, since everybody is content, forget about it. I thought it was a bug not just some sloppy semantics .

JZL240I-U, OK now I see what you are referring to. I had *no* idea that you were on the post a reply page It is indeed sloppy semantics I guess. All the link does is open the thread in a new window. At that point the number of replies you see is based on your UserCP settings. Hope this clears things up.
