Sr. UNIX System Administrator - Mountain View, CA
VeriSign is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to provide support for the Enterprise Production, QA and Development environments.
This position requires installation, configuration, maintenance and support of 24x7 mission critical systems - primarily Enterprise/Production (database) Servers and Storage. Interact with project managers, application development groups and a team of Operations specialists. Perform configuration management responsibilities. Develop and maintain system configurations. Troubleshoot and resolve system problems and monitor system performance. Proficient in specific system technologies as defined in the requirements.
Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for maintaining Sun, Linux, AIX and Windows servers in a production environment.
Responsible for working with developers, QA and Operations personnel to identify patches and upgrades required to maintain these systems and will be responsible for the configuration management of the systems.
Maintain daily backups of the servers and will be responsible for the archiving of backups and restoration of data when required.
Responsible for the maintenance of development tools and utilities and will be called on to write and maintain shell, perl automation scripts.
Support 24x7 operations during customer surge/crisis periods. This role typically operates only during business hours but must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including occasional on-call hours during evenings and weekends.
Solid organizational, time management and strong problem-solving skills are required along with the ability to work independently.
Experience Required:
6+ years experience working in an Enterprise class IT/Operations environment.
4+ years experience directly working with user community in a customer service environment.
4+ years of strong systems administration on AIX, Solaris, Linux to include system monitoring, user account management, network troubleshooting and software upgrades.
2 years experience scheduling system-level activities in a lab or development environment.
2 years experience in technical project management in an enterprise systems environment.
Superior knowledge of AIX, Linux, Solaris, NIS, DNS, LDAP Sendmail and Postfix.
Strong experience with configuration including experience with jumpstart/Kixstart software configuration management and maintenance of Enterprise class servers from IBM, Sun, and Dell.
Experience with configuration and maintenance of Network Appliance filers, EMC DMX and CX storage arrays, HA implementations using HACMP or VCS.
Experience with Netbackup Datacenter software and robotic tape libraries from Spectralogic and IBM.
Superior knowledge of networking and distributed computing environments and concepts.
Experience with shell scripting and scripting languages such as perl, python and JavaScript is highly desirable.
Knowledge of Windows operating systems, Oracle database and SAN/NAS/DAS will be added benefit.
Ability to work independently, be a team player, and provide leadership to other team members.
Strong problem solving skills and strong interpersonal written and verbal communication skills ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.
BS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Technology or related experience required
