I was not amused after doing one of the best things I had done for a longtime, and that was throw Windows away, and install the latest Ubuntu on my desk-top and Mint on my partner's desktop. We love 'em! However when we tried to enlighten other neighbours living in the same block as us - it's a block for the over fifties, they screamed with ridicule, and told us in no uncertain terms that there is no such thing as Linux, and we've been boozled as they put it, and told us to push off. Their loss, not our's!

Hello and welcome to the forum
I'm used to this kind of reaction when it comes to sharing my faith in Jesus Christ. Folks tend to think, in part, that I believe in a lie and a fairy tale, not understanding that Who I belong to and what I have in Him is very real and a fact. But I have to admit I've never seen what you've experienced the times I've offered Linux as a substitute for Windows. Most of the time, people have never even heard of it. I've had a couple takers (in the last two or three years,) though, partly because Windows was not a workable option for them at that point in time.
If you have Linux installed on a laptop and you feel inclined, take your laptop to your neighbors and show 'em.
