The very new guy in linux world and in the forum

Hello everyone,

First I would like to welcome myself in this forum. Hope I will catch lots of things new and interesting things here.
I'm not that proud owner of Sony Vaio (hate it really). I'm dual booting win7 and ultimate editon 2.9. Tried lots of distros, and at the end decide for UE, bcs at overall it suits best to my machine.

My first experience was with Ubuntu 9.04 two years ago when I had crash with windows XP. I called my friend, who was lets say good with linux, and we installed ubuntu. From that moment I'm really enjoying. Cuople of months ago I bought this crap laptop, it seems like good idea in that time. What I was thinking?!!!
The reason I'm saying I'm new in linux world because my knowledge is fairly superficial. But now i decide to really get to know, some of the details so I can continue to working on it without screwing myself, like I did couple of times.
Currently I'm doing master in astrophysics, so you see how linux for me is crucial.

Hope to have some fun here

Hello and Welcome to LinuxQuestions,

What were the problems with your laptop that resulted in you 'hating it' if you don't mind me asking? Most of the problems, if not all, can get solved in some way with Linux since you're in control. Being a newbie the lack of knowledge would result in you not being able on your own to solve the problem (yet) but that's why you have LinuxQuestions! Lot's of knowledgeable people hanging around at these forums, I assure you.

Looking forward to your participation in the forums. Have fun with Linux.

Kind regards,

Eric

The main problem is temperature it goes really up sometimes and fan can be really noisy. Lm-sensors aren not working
command sensors-detect
giving me output
Quote:
Sorry, no sensors were detected.
This is relatively common on laptops, where thermal management is
handled by ACPI rather than the OS
When i run some flash videos (lets say youtube) fan start spinning crazy.
With some distros I had lots of problems to make them working.

I have Sony Vaio VPCEB4S1E
