Wink Thanks for letting me join you

Hello everybody, my names Jim and I imagine this is the first step I need to take
to rid myself of M.S.
After to many B.S.D. ....Enough is enough Mr.Gates...I have been using Firebird/fox ..thunderbird..OoS, since last year. Yesterday I installed an extra
SATA drive and loaded SuSE 10.0 ( From Linux Mag.)...Apart from several issues.
It dislikes my printer(canon i560), and no control of or sound with cd/dvd...Im as happy as a dog with two tails Mr.Gates, which is more than I can say for most of your customers...I will get through this....And it Will Be a Better Life
Thanks people...I needed that..

Awesome. Welcome to LQ.org Jim. Your first post was also an interesting one. I've noticed that a lot of new Linux users has used some sort of Free, Open-source software before, as Firefox and Open Office. This is really neat.

I myself have nothing against Microsoft. What I dislike is the idea that a PC = Windows, Internet = Internet Explorer and Office = MS Office. Heck, even my keyboard has a little Windows key on it . If Linux is not going to change that picture, I believe open-source can

Best Regards and good luck with SuSE. Last version I've tried was SuSE 9.1 and I found it to be one of the coolest distros out there. I even heard once or twice that SuSE is Linus Torvalds choice of Linux at home. You're in good hands I suppose

EDIT: A while ago, a member of this forum wanted to configure SuSE's YaST to download packages from the net directly when installing something. Adding more resources for YaST == more packages available for you, such as mplayer and media support. Check this out:

Thanks for the welcome MegaMan X and XavierP, I only hope that I can add to the forum rather than take.
Yes. I recommend anybody that is using Windows and is thinking of trying a Linux distribution to
download and use as many open-source applications as possible. This will help you at a later date.
Yes your right, its about time the pendulum swung the other way, but it will not happen overnight, after many years a hoover is still a hoover!....The more people that take that first step the sooner we will have more stable O/S.
You saying Mr.Torvalds uses SuSE makes me wonder if Mr.Gates uses M.S. !!!!(No wonder his smile makes me shudder)....Thanks for the link,I will try it tomorrow.
