Sick of Windows...fairly new to Linux
Hey everyone,
I've been using Windows for the past 10 years and have gotten pretty much everything I can get out of it. I'm usually the go-to guy for Windows questions and problems for all my friends and family. I am tired of shelling out hundreds of dollars every time Microsoft puts out a new OS only to find that there is a whole new set of problems added to all of the old problems. I'm tired of the spy-ware and other malicious code that quickly bogs down Windows computers. Hopefully I can get good enough with Linux that I can convert my friends and family.
I first tried Linux back in 2000 with LinuxStorm and Mandrake 7 back when MaximumLinux magazine was still around and they provided CDs with those distros on them. About all I did was play the games though. I quit using it because it was too much of a hassle for my wife to swap the hard drives when she wanted to use Windows.
I've played around a bit with SuSe 9.1 and I am now trying to get SuSe 10.1 up and running.
I'm sure I'll be asking a lot of questions as I try to build up my knowledge and experience.
I am a budding Java programmer (mainly for my CS degree), I'm looking at getting into PERL and I just want to be able to be as comfortable with Linux as I am with Windows.
See you all around,
