problem in installing linux

Sir,

I have purchased one intel mb having description mb no. DG965RY using 512 Mb ram
chip set 965 like that. processor is D945 (3.4 ghz speed 2x2 lache, 64HT. now i installed windows xp professional and it is working okey. but when i tried any version of linux, it is asking driver. when i tried fC 6 64 bit software, it again asking drivers. i am using SATA 160 GB HDD. Please help me how to install linux in my system?

When do you get the message asking for drivers? Is it at the beginning, and is it asking for a sata driver?

On Google, for this board, the boot option "pci=nommconf" is often referred to.
