Old dog trying to learn new tricks
Hello folks at LinuxQuestions,
I'm new to Linux and trying to learn as much as I can.
I first tried it about 3 months ago when I converted my teenagers PC to SuSE to stop getting a bunch of spyware. It worked! Plus they made themselves at home with Gaim and music and Open Office without one bit of help from me. (Still can't get Samba print sharing to work...)
I teach at a school that has only Windows XP and Win2k & Win2003 servers. Again, spyware is rampant on all machines students use, so i asked the tech guys for some old computers from the basement and now have Ubuntu setup on two ancient IBM valuepoints. Once again, kids got right on it.
I found the Dummies book on SuSE 10 to be prett useless, but just bought a copy of Shah & Soyinka's "Linux Administration - A Beginner's Guide" and I have a hard time putting it down.
I've had no luck getting any distro to work on my laptop.
I'm hoping to get some old PC and setup a server in my house for all printing and file storage.
I'm a Quicken addict from way back and it's the only app that's keeping me on Windows.
I look forward to reading / writing on this forum. Oops, I guess this was a long intro hello!
