Lightbulb Ode To LinuxQuestions

Hello Linux Questions, I'm new to these forums and although I've used a few distro's before I never could get a stable system working and was to stubborn to really look for help. That I blame on the upbringing in Windows, becauses usually everything works the first time without any skill or knowledge needed.

Now I have ventured into the world of Gentoo and I'm running into problems of course. But that's for another thread. In my opinion, Gentoo seems to be the distro to install if you *want* to learn linux since it forces you from the start to read, and read, and read. The doc's are great and it's been almost painless thus far.

I think I've got my goals set to have this sucker stable and eventually trash windows. Even if it means I'll have to learn a great deal about something I don't know. In the process I'll be searching the threads looking for answers. Wish me luck!

I'll thank you all in advance, since I know you all deserve it.
Thanks,
Dan

Hi MrDunk!

Welcome to LQ.org. I loved your spirit, eager to learn Linux. And you are so right about Gentoo. It was with Gentoo that I've actually learned how Linux really works. I don't use it today, but it sure was worthy every emerge I ever did

I would like to once again welcome you and wish you luck!

Best Regards!
