Linux revisited !

Hi all,

I have eventually managed to revisit the Linux OS after a long break, and have installed a copy of SuSE 7.3 Personal on a 2001 vintage Dell Laptop.

I must say, things have really moved on greatly since I first managed to install a copy of a Lasermoon Linux Distro (circa 1996-7?) on an IBM Aptiva 486, narrowly avoiding causing irreperable damage to the monitor !

The KDE Desktop is great and the prescence of an MS Office alternative (StarOffice) is very welcome. I have managed to hook-up to my USB Flash Drive, the next task is getting it hooked up to BlueYonder Broadband.

If I can get that sorted out, there is no reason why I cannot use this Laptop as my main home PC.

Anyway, I look forward to chatting further within the forums. I'll probably be lurking in the Newbie forum for the foreseeable future !

Regards,

Ian.

SuSE 7.3 is pretty vintage in it's own right. You might consider downloading OpenSUSE 10.1.

Thanks for the replies.

I thought SuSE 7.3 was a pretty polished distro, but I've just seen 10.1 - very impressed, although it may be a bit too recent for my ageing laptop, however I have a new desktop and a spare HDD so I can install the second HDD and set-up a dual boot with Win XP and SuSE 10.1 on that.
