Linux is great!

Dear friends!

I am new to Linux. I started by working briefly on Xubuntu, then on Debian. Now have installed Slackware on my HP laptop. The journey was rough but very thrilling.

I thank my friend Robert Fiske for all his support and time. Now I have successfully upgraded the kernel own my own to v2.6.27 (just few minutes before v2.6.27.9 stable was released). Planning to check that out soon too.

Solving the Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN driver problem was truly enjoyable. This is just the beginning. I am sure I shall learn a lot more from you folks through "linuxquestions.org".

Welcome srsanka - most people who have had the rollercoaster introduction to GNU/Linux come to us complaining! Well done on your efforts. It sounds like you'll be contributing answers yourself too.

A tip: edit your profile to show your distro and location in the left-hand sidebar (see mine?) This helps people know where you are coming from.

Would you please add a link to the "wifi link 5100 agn driver problem" and solution - in case someone googles here by mistake?

I just want to add how pleased I am to hear that you feel that; while everyone feels that computers are willfully obtuse some of the time, getting a pleasure from actually solving problems is one of the best weapons that you can have on your side.

It makes a big change from newbies (not all newbies, obviously) who feel that every problem should be solved for them, out of the box, without any need to think what the problem might be, or how to describe it.
