Boinc Issue - always deferring communication 5 minutes

Hi, I'm the newbie-est of newbies in regards to Linux...lol... I've downloaded the Boinc manager to run seti@home... but it keeps telling me that communication is deferred for 5 minutes. I've run this software under Windows 10 with no issues, but no matter how much I search the problem, the info is more than this old brain can understand... one post said I had to add an exception to the firewall..but I tried that... and the exception wasn't there when I went back to the firewall.. another post said I had to download a client, but when I downloaded Boinc, I downloaded the mega package (I think that was what it was called), so wouldn't the client be in there?

I found an 8 hour video on Linux on youtube to become efficient with Linux, but I would still like to get this issue remedied...

Thank you in advance for any assistance you could provide...

Rob

Don't worry too much about it.

Welcome to LQ!

I have ZERO idea how to advise on this, because I've not done any of that, which I think is a distributed computing project.

Firstly, they MUST have some help on their website where you've downloaded the application, specifically for Linux, where they can help. So I'd definitely suggest asking questions there.

As far as a place on LQ to try your question? There are multiple other forums, I'd start just one thread with your question in one of those forums. Please don't create duplicates, any new question is in the list of new questions, so cross posting just adds potential confusion.

Here are some suggested forums to maybe try:

Linux - General
Linux - Newbie
Linux - Software

I'll also add that not everyone views the New Member forum, and new un-replied-too threads here do not get put into the list of zero reply threads. Meanwhile a question posted in one of the forums I've listed above will be shown in that list and likely generate some responses.

Good luck and I hope you find the solution!
