Unhappy WPA and ipw2100 drivers (ubuntu)

I've been trying to set up the encrypted wireless connection on my laptop (Thinkpad T42p with ipw2100 card).

I got the following:
  • ipw2100-1.1.3 (latest as for now),
  • ieee80211-1.1.6 (latest as for now),
  • wpa_supplicant-0.4.6 (latest as for now),
  • kernel-2.6.13.4

I have compiled and installed both ipw2100 and ieee80211 modules correctly (no problems with loading modules). Also, when there is no encryption, I am able to associate with access point and everything is working ok.

While using wpa_supplicant, I'm using '-Dwext' parameter, not '-Dipw', following advice on some of the forums (sorry, can't remember if it was linuxquestions.org or something else).

While running wpa_supplicant, I'm getting this error when I select 'auth_alg=LEAP' in wpa_supplicant.conf configuration file (my AP is using LEAP):

Code:
ioctl[SIOCSIWAUTH]: Invalid argument
Now, I'm pretty sure that LEAP support is compiled in. Does that mean there is something funny going on between wpa_supplicant and kernel driver?

Any help is really appreciated, I've explored every possbile path to go, recompiled both ipw2100 and ieee80211 modules - to no avail.

i have the same problem with knoppix 4.0.2 kernel 2.6.13, when i run

wpa_supplicant -D ipw -i eth0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

i got:
Quote:
ioctl[SIOCSIWPMKSA]: Operation not supported

Trying to associate with 00:13:10:05:c6:b1 (SSID='ABCD' freq=0 MHz)

ioctl[IPW_IOCTL_WPA_SUPPLICANT]: Invalid argument

Authentication with 00:00:00:00:00:00 timed out.

Trying to associate with 00:13:10:05:c6:b1 (SSID='ABCD' freq=0 MHz)

ioctl[IPW_IOCTL_WPA_SUPPLICANT]: Invalid argument

CTRL-EVENT-TERMINATING - signal 2 received
this is my wpa_supplicant.conf:
Quote:
network={
ssid="ABC"
#psk="my_key"
psk=my_key_hash
}
i think it need a patch for ipw2100

i think i found the solution..

i tried this on my fedora4. after i update the kerenl from 2.6.11 to 2.6.15 the wpa_supplicant start giveng me this error messange :
Quote:
[root@DrDeath ~]# wpa_supplicant -D ipw -i eth1 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
ioctl[IPW_IOCTL_WPA_SUPPLICANT]: Operation not supported
Failed to set encryption.
but i used this command:
Quote:
[root@DrDeath ~]# wpa_supplicant -D wext -i eth1 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
and its work fine.because the ipw drivers choose to disable the "old" driver specific interface in the presence of a kernel which supports WPA features (WE18 are present
on kernels >= 2.4.13). If you use older kernels to compile the driver,
it will include the ipw interface, else it will include the kernel
interface.
