wlan0 no such device

I have a Dell Latitude D610 laptop with internal wireless trying to run Knoppix 4.0.2.

lspci detects "Network controller: Broadcom Corporation: Unknown device 4319 (rev 02)"

From researching online I have found that ndiswrapper must be used based on lspci info. I am using the latest driver release from Dell for this card.

Here is the what I try doing:

Code:
/usr/sbin/ndiswrapper -i /home/knoppix/bcmwl5.inf
Installing bcmwl5
Forcing parameter ...
...
/usr/sbin/ndiswrapper -l
Installed ndis drivers:
bcmwl5 driver present, hardware present
modprobe ndiswrapper
iwconfig wlan0
wlan0 No such device
ndiswrapper -m
Adding "alias wlan0 ndiswrapper" to /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper
iwconfig wlan0
wlan0 No such device
It seems as if this is as far as I can get. I have used google and searched many other places but to no avail. Please help me figure this out. I have already scratched my head enough on this one.

Hello.

One thing you should note is that your card might be detected, but not named wlan0. I've seen cards identified as eth0, ath0 and ra0. Try just typing "iwconifig" with no options.

Also, it would help to figure out EXACTLY which chipset is on your adapter. To do this, do a web search for something like "dell latitude d610 wireless chipset". Please post your findings so that I can assist you better.

Also, do you have Knoppix installed on your hard drive or are you booting from the CD. I've had trouble using ndiswrapper from the CD. Depending on the chipset you're using, you may not need ndiswrapper; there may be a native Linux driver that's easier to install and use.

I am running knoppix booting from CD. The most information I can give on the chipset is that it is a Dell MiniPCI 1470 wireless card. I have downloaded Dell's latest driver release for that card. When I typed "iwconfig" during my failed attempts none of the listed devices offered any wireless information, all stating the same thing, something about no wireless or something. (eth0, lo, etc.).

I did some looking around and found this:

http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/m...index.php/List

You seem to be using the right file. FYI, the chipset seems to be "Broadcom BCM4319 (rev 02)".

This page looks like it's got a good how-to for installing it on Debian (which Knoppix is based on).

If you can't get those to work (which I always had problems with on the Knoppix CD), try downloading and booting a Mepis CD. They have a lot of ndiswrapper stuff working without you having to do anything.

Here is a link to a how-to for Mepis.

Hope that helps.
