Wireless secured tunel

Hi all, I´m planing to connect two Lans in my neighborhood through Wireless, I have two old P100 which I intend to use to create a bridge between the two Lans.

The problems are two:

1) How can I build that bridge so each Lan can "see" the other Lan as if there where only one big Lan?

2) How can I configure the bridge to be made under some kind of secure communication, perhaps ssh?

Thanks in advance.

You'll need to use Ethernet Bridging to make them "seemless". In order to secure it, you'll probably want to use a VPN such as FreeS/WAN. SSH is only intended for small individual tunnels (on a point-to-point basis) whereas many companies use a VPN bridge for remote offices, for example.

I look forward to seeing your progress. I might be interested in trying something similar if I can find some decent long-distance 802.11x gear.

In my case distance is short, 40 mts with clear visibility, a directional antenna should be enough. The only problem is finding Linux-compatible wireless cards, here in Uruguay (south in south america =P) we have only a dozen different models.

I also need to check some laws about transmiting data, because we have a state monopoly in telecomunications (except in some areas like cell phones) and I pretend to share a fraction of my adsl to the neighborhood.

I'm just interested in building a WiFi tunnel between two buildings to perform better backups... but it's like .5 miles away.
