In hope that someone can assist me here. Setting the scene, I am using a Toshiba Tecra 8000, with Mandrake 10. I have a Minitar wireless cardbus network adapter which uses the RT2400 driver from Ralink.
I have managed to set it all up and have it working...with a but....
I can't seem to manage to get it recognised on boot. It gets to loading the ra0, and times out with an error message of not being able to obtain an IP.
However, after it completes the boot process, and I log in, I am able to manually connect. How this is done is intermitent, sometimes I just type ifconfig down and then ifconfig up followed by dhclient ra0...but other times it is a little more mucking around.
I run RaConfig, and it seems that it doesn't find any wireless ESSID's. I keep retrying, and at some random time (up to 10 minutes to never) it finds one, and then others near by. The distance between the wireless receiver and sender is only about 1-2 meters when I am doing this.
I believe it is a configuration issue, so if anyone can suggest how to debug this it would be appreciated. Ok, if you haven't already guessed, I am relatively new to linux, so I am not sure which configuration files are used during the boot process to check them. There is ifcfg-ra0, but that seems to be set up the way it is described in the HOW-TO's, and I have copied it to /etc..../networking/default.
Yup, tried that. I've seen to narrowthe problem down that the card doesn't seem to be started.
To get it running manually, I need to open RaConfig first. It can't find any Access Points at this point, however, if I double click on the saved profile, I notice that the lights on the wireless networking card start, and from this point on everything works!
During the boot process, the ra0 driver fails, and no lights on the card appear. So it seems to me that the card doesn't kick in. Running ifconfig ra0 does provide the mac address etc so it is seeing the card.
Thanks for that, but I don't seem to have the directory network under /etc
I've noticed that if I run RaConfig and then click on the profile then the lights on the network card start, and it connects. It seems to not being started during the boot cycle,
