Smile Loopback connection fails

Hi buddies,

is there any body who knows why my loopback connection by telnet fails? I'm new to linux environment and want to write some network programs. I tried this command:

telnet 127.0.0.1 21

to connect to my ftp service. and got the message that connection is refused.

I do this to test if I can use loopback connection for my programming purposes, since I don't have network connection on my computer. I appreciate if you can help me to solve this problem and start my network programming in Linux.

Thank you
Frances

perhaps your ftp service is not running.

Dear ppuru,

Thank you very much for your reply. You're right, ftp service was not running and ping is correct. So I think I can start my programming job.

Thank you a lot
Frances
