wireless Intel pro network config on Knoppix 5.01
I have a HP Compaq NC-6220 notebook & a problem with wireless detection. The hardware in the machine is detected as a Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG MiniPCI Adapter rev 05 in lspci output. modprobe ipw2200 produces no output errors. Even once modprobed, the card does not appear to be handled in any other way, ie not appearing in wireless config, and not appearing in ifconfig -a output. I believe that this chip is covered with the ipw2200 driver. Does Knoppix 5.01 live handle this chip/driver, and if so how would you get it working. Being a live distro, is it then possible to have it automatically configure this card upon startup, or alternatively run a script to configure it after startup. I have read something about firmware being required, so how does any live distro handle firmware loading? It 'was' my understanding that firmware loading occurs as part of the driver loading process. More specifically, if firmware is required, how does Knoppix handle this?
Cheers Greg
