Lightbulb Wireless "Connection Refused" by gateway

I have set up wireless networking using a usb adapter based on the Zydas chipset, I'm current using the ZD1211B module as the ZD1211 module wouldn't work, I can connect to my router but after a (very) short time the connection drops and doesn't come back up until I restart the machine (however the ESSID can still be seen and Kwifi manager says my signal is fine). Has anyone experienced any similar symtoms?
I have the router working properly with another computer using the same USB adapter so I know they are compatible I think it may be an issue with the network settings, but I have checked them and all seems correct.
I'm running slackware 10.2 with kernel 2.6.17.8
Any suggestions would be welcome.
